On policies that allow access to bathrooms and locker rooms on the basis of gender identity rather than on anatomy:
A few years ago, the Cambridge University Press Journal of Development and Psychopathology published a study conducted over the course of 23 years, as researchers tracked girls ranging in age from 6 to 16 at the start of the study in 1987, carefully analyzing the differences between girls who had experienced sexual abuse and those who had not. The study produced a shocking conclusion: girls who had been abused had dramatically reduced cortisol levels, which are often linked to a decrease in the body’s ability to deal with stress and depression. Lower cortisol levels are also often linked with obesity and PTSD.
“The cortisol levels (of some study participants) wound up looking like Vietnam vets,” reported study co-author Dr. Frank Putnam, professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. “That tells us they are in a chronic state of stress, and never feel safe.”
According to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network, 1 out of every 4 girls can identify with this conclusion, since that’s the number of girls who will be sexually abused before the age of 18. An estimated 2/3 of these sexual assault cases are never reported to the police, and 98% of rapists will never go to jail. That means there’s a pretty substantial population of deviants out there, and it’s vastly important to create awareness and limit their opportunities to offend.
Proponents of the aforementioned progressive new locker room policies would like people to believe the risk is minimal and that exploitation is unlikely. In light of the aforementioned statistics, I have to disagree. As another blogger mentioned, a basic Google search of “upskirt bathroom video” yields a nauseating return of over six MILLION results. The content of these videos? Just what it sounds like- voyeurs capturing footage of women’s parts from underneath bathroom stalls. It is precisely the female anatomy that makes us vulnerable to this type of abuse, and with six million such videos in existence, it’s safe to say there’s a sick and captive audience.
Beyond this, there are already people posing as women to gain access to their victims, many of them occurring before the implementation of policies that would make it even easier to do so. The following is a (non-exhaustive) list of some of these offenders. And remember, these are just a few of the ones who’ve been caught. Ninety percent of these guys remain unaccounted for.
Noel Crompton Hall/Maddison Hall began hormone treatment while in prison for murder. He was transferred to a women’s prison, where he was charged with rape of a female prisoner.
March 2008. Women at Purdue University reported a man in women’s clothing was in a bathroom stall holding a flip phone camera beneath the door. The man escaped.
March 2010, Norwood Smith Burnes, while on probation for public indecency, was arrested for undressing in front of children at a Walmart. He refused to let adult women enter the restroom during the incident.
October 2010- An anonymous man was reported photographing women in various stages of undress in the UC Berkeley women’s locker room on two separate occasions. He dressed as a woman to gain access and fled when confronted by staff, escaping both times.
July 2011. Thomas Lee Benson, a registered sex offender known to target girls between the ages of 5 and 9, dressed up like a woman and went into a women’s locker room, where he began talking with several children before being chased out.
February 2012. Christopher Hambrook pretended to be transgender to gain access to two different women’s shelters. He sexually assaulted a woman in each one. Shelters- by definition, a place of safety and protection.
March 2012. Taylor Buehler was arrested on charges of voyeurism after dressing as a woman to gain access to the women’s locker room at Everett Community College. He admitted to police that he was also the suspect in an earlier voyeurism incident, during which he showered in the girls’ locker room for sexual gratification.
In 2012, Paul Witherspoon, who was convicted in 1990 of sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child, was accused of suspicious activity in the women’s restroom at a Dallas hospital. He gained access because he is a cross-dresser. In 2011, he was re-arrested for sending nude pictures of himself through the internet.
July 2013. Rodney Kenneth Peterson dressed as a woman to gain access to “Female only areas” at Loma Linda University. While there, he used a cellphone, hidden in his purse, to take pictures of the women.
March 2014. Mario Morales-Herrera dressed as a woman to gain access to the women’s restroom at a Seattle library, where he set up a camera and recorded a 10 year old girl and a 40 year old woman using the facilities.
October 2015. The University of Toronto was forced to reduce the number of gender neutral bathrooms on campus after at least two female students reported seeing a cell phone reach over the shower stall in an attempt to record them.
Each year at work, all employees are required to complete a thorough and intense child sexual abuse prevention training. (I love that we do this.) The training concludes with the following statements, ones that have never been more relevant than they are today:
“When it comes to protecting children, doing nothing is never an option. The children in your organization are depending on you to protect them from the devastating lifelong effects of sexual abuse. It is up to you to be a leader- to stand up and make a difference when you see something that could endanger a child. Have the moral courage to protect our kids. YOU will make the difference.”
I couldn’t agree more.
Umm ypu really thought with women demanding the right to enter and eliminate all male only spaces and break ceilings and eliminate male only bonding that men would not retaliate and eliminate women's spaces.
Lol
The next 3 decades are going to be hilarious, the entire feminist movement is going to fall flat as masses of men start to identify as women and invade and finally end the false attention and support females receive.
