Last year, rightwing pundit Steven Crowder made waves when he publicly lamented the fact that his wife was abandoning their marriage. “My then-wife decided she didn’t want to be married anymore,” he complained. “And in the state of Texas that is completely permitted.”
I find it amusing how bad the extreme right is at predicting unintended consequences, the thing conservatives are supposed to be good at. Eliminating no-fault divorce will have the entirely and utterly predictable consequence of increasing cohabitation and the number of children born out of wedlock. Duh.
Huh, I didn't know it was Reagan who signed no-fault divorce into law.
Decades ago I went to court to try to help my mother (a real piece of work herself) escape her marriage from my abusive father. The judge said there was no evidence of abuse, and he was right (although the abuse was real). Last year I left the church where I was repeatedly told by different people that my parents should have stayed together, and that I surely didn't REALLY want them to get divorced. Screw 'em all.

Wow. I’m so sorry. Family court is supremely frustrating.
