The 2024 Election: A Rebuke of the Left and a Warning for the Right
by guest contributor Brian F. Marks
Much analysis of the 2024 election is still emerging, but as one who voted for President-elect Trump and anticipated that he would win handily, I’m rejoicing in the scope of his victory.
For conservatives and many normies more broadly, what happened on Election Day was a vindicating, colossal rejection of leftism, especially abusive woke-ism, on so many levels and fronts.
So many left-wing narratives about Americans were shattered. So much left-wing dogma the elites were convinced was sensible, conventional wisdom turned out to be spectacularly false. Americans across the fruited plain rose up en masse and said “NO.”
And yet, ascendent conservatives who are rightly elated would be wise to consider several things as they take their seats of power in Washington, DC and around the country.
But first, the left absolutely deserved this astonishingly strong rebuke at the ballot box. Let’s take a moment to survey their crushing loss.
President-elect Trump won a 312 electoral vote landslide, the largest electoral college victory in nearly 40 years. He is on track to win the popular vote for the first time in 20 years. He transformed American politics, realigning it around the interests and concerns of normal everyday Americans. Despite moderating the GOP platform significantly, the election seemed to prove, yet again, that the United States is a decidedly center-right country. The cities may be blue, but even they notably trended in Trump’s direction. It’s fascinating to see it in places like Chicago, New York City, and even in San Francisco. That is simply stunning. Meanwhile, the suburbs and rural areas largely lurched to the right.
Trump won all 7 swing states. The House remained in Republican control. The Senate flipped to Republican. Republicans also did well in state legislatures and governorships.
Trump increased his vote share from 2020 in every state except Utah. And this year he only lost New Jersey, a solidly blue state, by approximately 5 points. He really stormed across this country; it truly was one of the greatest political comeback stories in world history. It was certainly an inflection point in American history.
When you consider the ruthlessly unfair forces arrayed against him, including almost all mainstream media, two impeachments, the behemoth DC administrative “deep” state, much of Big Tech (except for Twitter, now X, thanks to Elon), the crazy lawsuits filed against him, dozens of ridiculous criminal indictments, two horrifying assassination attempts (that we know of!) – including one where he missed by half an inch having his brains blown out on national TV – it really does seem like his return to the White House after all of this was divinely orchestrated, indeed, providential.
In my opinion, Sean Davis of the Federalist put it best, writing on X after it became clear that Trump won the presidency last week: “Today was why they tried to impeach him. Today was why they tried to bankrupt him. Today was why they tried to imprison him. Today was why they tried to kill him. They knew that when given a choice, the American people would re-elect him.”
Surprisingly for a Republican candidate, he won substantial increases in percentages of Jewish vote, the Muslim vote, the Black vote, the Catholic vote, the Native American vote, and the Gen Z vote. He absolutely SURGED with Hispanics, especially Latino men. I, personally, know many Democrats who didn’t vote this time or voted Trump, something many of them thought unthinkable in 2016. Why? Even they were put off by the woke insanity. Many of them were abused by people they thought were their ideological compatriots.
And yes, Trump held steady with an overwhelming majority (77-81%, depending on the analysis) of that oogedy-boogedy staunch bulwark of voters that the media loves to loathe and demonize relentlessly – white evangelical Christians. Say what you will about them, but white evangelicals are rather SHREWD and they are fiercely committed to conserving things that the left intends to destroy. Democrats have made it clear how much they revile social conservatives. Who are they supposed to vote for? Most evangelicals are displeased with the Republicans on several issues, but they DO know that if they’re going to get anything socially conservative passed or upheld in the legislature or in the courts it will be Republican elected leaders or conservative judges who do it. It’s not even a question. Trump correctly calculated that even with a watered-down platform they wouldn’t abandon him. And he was right.
Why does this matter?
It matters because it shows that the American people were done, and I mean DONE, with the constant barrage of sniveling leftist snobbery, incessant deception, and horrifically manipulative framing about who Americans are.
For years, the general public has been gaslit and inundated with lie after lie after despicable LIE that we are evil racists, Nazis, white supremacists, misogynists, nativists, xenophobes, homophobes, transphobes, and uneducated, irredeemable, deplorable “garbage” bigots who pose an existential “threat to democracy”.
Most normie Americans, regardless of their race or religion or politics, know that it’s just not true. Even in our polarized culture and with the deep divides in society, we still mostly all get along just fine. We have people in our families who vote differently. We marry interracially more than ever before. Americans? My international friends always tell me the two traits that characterize us as a people are that we are “loud” and “friendly.” Our racial problems, while real, PALE in comparison to other countries.
And let me just say that most decent left-of-center types are NOT OK with castrating minor children with puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones and surgically removing their breasts and genitals. Nor do they want boys and men in girls and women’s sports. Transgenderism was, as some data suggests, the death knell for the Democrats in this election. They’re still fighting about it, and I’m convinced that if they continue in their defense of this horror it could end them as a party. Honestly, I kind of think it should. We need Nuremberg 2.0 tribunals for the horrific child abuse and medical atrocities that have been unleashed by the rainbow mafia and their Dem enablers in DC. Just wait until the general public finally wakes up to who that evil wretch Dr. Johanna Olson-Kennedy is. Methinks some Congressional subpoenas and fat and painful lawsuits are coming soon. Lord, hasten that day!
And most decent people have legitimate concerns about unfettered immigration. They wonder about all the drug trafficking and human smuggling coming through the southern border. They aren’t opposed to all immigration but think it’s insane to fling the system wide open and fly thousands of people to swing states and disrupt life. Seriously, what the heck is going on? Open borders? It’s nuts!
But to the left? If you oppose that or dare to ask questions they’ll scream “RACIST!” at you and accuse you of being xenophobic, afraid of the “browning of America.” It’s so damn tiresome.
And while leftists with their hoity-toity credentials and sparkly degrees go to wine and cheese cocktail parties and as deep state operatives sneer about “smelling the Trump support in Wal-Mart”, normal Americans just want to provide for their families and they feel the pain of inflation every month. They eat rice and beans instead of meat because the price of groceries is high. They clip coupons and struggle to make ends meet. The average gentry liberal resident of Martha’s Vineyard, Georgetown-DC, and the Upper West Side of Manhattan, has no clue what they endure, nor do they care. To call them “out of touch” is too kind. They are pugnacious, pompous, privileged snots. And most people haven’t forgotten what this same pretentious crowd did during COVID or the insanity of that time. They are the ruthless authoritarian monsters they accuse us of being.
But the media elite chattering class keeps their imagined narrative going because they think they own the perfect, most rational, science-loving (ha!) way to think about the world. If ever there were a group to whom that Romans 1 phrase “Proclaiming themselves to be wise, they became fools…” it’s the national Democrats and the talking heads in the mainstream media (apologies for the superfluous redundancy there, lol).
If I wanted to help them I’d do so by violently shaking the average MSNBC pundit by the shoulders, and scream: “FFS, WIPE THAT ARROGANT SMIRK OFF YOUR FACE AND STOP BEING SUCH A SMARMY, MEAN AND NASTY ASSHOLE!”
But they are so freaking blind, convinced to the hilt of their intellectual superiority, that not even that will work. They are hardened in their pride. I actually think many of them are not just woefully misguided but conniving, deeply evil.
And I know iIt’s anecdotal, but I actually know a Muslim guy from Gaza who became a naturalized citizen and now lives in Pennsylvania outside of Philly. Earlier this year, before Biden exited the race, he told me that a Hispanic gal friend of his told him that she was going to vote Republican this year. When he asked her why she replied: “Because I’m so tired of being used for my race and minority status. The Democrats get us worked up every election cycle, and nothing much ever changes. And my conservative friends who vote Trump? They’re always nice to me even when we disagree.”
Somehow, when she said that to him, it clicked in his head, and the more he thought about it, he realized he felt the exact same way. Coupled with his distaste for the social liberalism of the Democrats, which he abhors as a devout Muslim, he contacted the county GOP and reportedly went around to the mosques and urged the imams and fellow Muslims to either vote Trump or, if they couldn’t do that, not show up for Biden (and subsequently, Harris).
The day after Election Day, this Muslim friend texted me: “Thank God [Trump] won.”
But while I’m encouraged by the firm and fierce “HELL, NO” the voters gave the left (and I’ve celebrated with champagne several nights in a row, not gonna lie), I am painfully aware at how this victory may buoy segments of the right that are toxic. True, these toxic segments don’t have NEAR the institutional heft and power that the left has (and still has) for years – Hollywood, academia, the mainstream press, corporate board rooms, the nonprofit world – if they continue with their toxicity, and I see no signs they’ll dial back the crazy, they’ll create an even bigger problem then what the woke have done for the left.
The theobros are crowing about their victory with Trump’s win. And in fairness, in some ways, they weren’t wrong AT ALL about the insanity of the left. They weren’t wrong about the horrifically manipulative way in which many progressive women viciously wielded empathy and twisted Scripture to defend the indefensible. Progressive religionists revel in accusing evangelicals of idolatry and while that’s sometimes true, they do the exact same thing just on a different side while their candidate enthusiastically celebrates things God hates. It actually is true that the modern Democrat party is a brazenly vile, demonic death cult. Evangelicals were not about to be browbeaten into believing that Trump was worse given the diabolical fervor with which the left champions the slaughter of the unborn and the ironclad commitment to sexual perversion and gender confusion. Many Christians, including those who didn’t vote Trump, couldn’t stomach the thought of voting for Harris because they rightly understand that leftists today are ideologically antichrist sledgehammer to Genesis 1.
But conservatives are woefully mistaken if they think that Trump's electoral mandate means the public wants a return to the so-called good ole days. Even as Trump sounds notes about an emerging American “golden age” – which plays on a wholesome 1950s narrative theobros imagine is real – they risk overshooting.
Already I’m shaking my head at the nomination of Pete Hegseth for Secretary of Defense. Who knows, maybe he will do a fine job running the Pentagon. But my goodness, what a gift handed to the haughty progressives who have been warning (often hysterically but not always inaccurately) about looming Christian nationalism.
Hegseth and his first wife, Meredith Schwarz, divorced in 2009. He married his second wife, Samantha Deering, in 2010; they have three children. In August 2017, while still married to Deering, Hegseth had a daughter with Fox executive producer Jennifer Rauchet, with whom he was having an extramarital affair. He and Deering divorced in August 2017. Hegseth and Rauchet, who has three young children from her first marriage, married in August 2019.
But now, he’s reportedly a repentant, committed Christian, and apparently goes to a CREC church in Tennessee. He hangs out with Reformed theobros on their podcasts.
And don’t even get me started on that cretinous sex pest Matt Gaetz. Liberty Counsel sums up my feelings about him. The guy is unqualified and lecherous awfulness on steroids.
And though I hope pro-lifers make good gains in light of Trump being in power, and some wins are likely, they’ll have to fight for them and continue to persuade people and it may be harder than they think. Because Americans are not down with abortion abolitionism. Americans do not want to see women jailed and imprisoned for procuring abortions. They do not want to see uber-patriarchal jackwagons who pontificate on this issue devalue women like they do. Yes, it’s disgusting to see some women celebrate their abortions at the DNC and on TikTok, but that’s not most of them. Most are desperate, looking for a fix, and they’ve been lied to for years, often coerced into something they do not want to do. Sure, some abolitionists will say they’ll punish the men too for coercion but 90% of their messaging is targeted at women. That’s a glaring tell.
This much is clear. Americans DID vote against the insanity of the left. They DIDN’T vote for far-right policies or for theobro religious prick philosophy. They do not want 1950s gender norms and attitudes. They didn’t vote to abolish same-sex marriage (and I lament this as I very much believe in historic Christian sexual ethics and wish we had a society that valued them too, but we don’t, alas). If the right gets cocky and even embraces the ascendent Doug Wilson-ite kooks, they can soon expect a seismic electoral shellacking of the sort the left got last week. And they’ll deserve it.
I’m unapologetically an evangelical Christian and socially conservative in all the ways that raises the hackles of the pelvic left. And I’ll be the first to say that our only REAL hope is a Great Awakening. I see some signs of that already starting to happen and that, I must say, it thrills me to no end.
Genuine faith in Jesus Christ, followed by wholehearted surrender to Him? THAT is where meaningful social (and political) transformation is found. Here’s hoping that this emerging cohort of people coming to know Him do not become enslaved in the snares and theological errors of those who mistakenly think that a tremendous political victory that many people across the spectrum are celebrating (for various reasons) is an affirmation of their pet doctrine-idol-heavy view of Scripture and distorted and unbiblical vision for human relationships. Because it definitely isn’t.
It’s really not cliche. The only way to make America great again is if it’s made godly again. We’re certainly not going to get godliness from the left. Nor will we get it from right-wing theobros, despite how much they may pretend and insist otherwise.
So thank you, God, for your enormous mercy on us as a nation. We didn’t deserve it. But may this reprieve you’ve given us from unchecked, insane leftist debauchery be marked by a commensurate posture of humility on our part. And may America become the covenant nation she is destined to be.
I'll just say it: I'm really, really scared of the theobros attached to Trump.
Wow. I disagree. Trump is an evil man. His fruit is clearly seen for all with eyes to see. You don't need to listen to the media, it comes out of his own mouth. He's choosing many for his administration that don't even meet minimum qualifications. Half of the country is terrified. Would prefer to hear some words of encouragement that sound remotely Christian.
